Achimenes is een geslacht van tropische bloeiende planten (familie: Gesneriaceae). De naam is afgeleid van het Griekse acheimenos. 'A' houdt een ontkenning in en 'cheimon' betekent storm of winterkoude. Komt oorspronkelijk voor in Midden-Amerika, het Caribisch gebied en Zuid-Amerika.
